Claire's client doesn't ask to go to the toilet, instead she simply urinates in her diaper.  Claire wants to teach her to use the toilet appropriately.  Claire will provide her consumer with her favorite ipad movie as soon as she urinates in the toilet.  One of her first steps is to get her to self-initiate a toilet session by either walking to the toilet or asking to use the toilet.  Even if she does not use the toilet, she will get access to the movie for simply going to the toilet and "trying". Which of the following would be an example of a using a discriminative stimulus (SD) towards this goal?

A) Have the client drink a cup of water each hour
B) Have the client eat prunes first thing in the morning
C) Provide a timer that beeps at the interval so she can sit on the toilet
D) Providing a movie each time that she urinates in the toilet

C - Providing a timer that beeps would be an SD that the reinforcer is more available.

Josh's parents bring him to Emily, a BCBA, because he is always "doing things he knows he isn't supposed to do and we can't take him anywhere in public." At their intake assessment, Emily notices that Josh is a sweet child who is eager to please and engages in interactive play as long as she is giving him social attention at a high rate. When Josh's parents return at the end of the session to pick him up, Emily attempts to give his parents a recap of the session but as soon as they start talking, Josh begins to bang toys on the wall and make loud vocalizations. Josh's mom tells him to "shhh" and picks him up. Josh stops making noises and plays with his mom's hair. Who's behavior was negatively reinforced?

a) Josh - because he stopped making noises when his mom picked him up.
b) Nobody - we don't know whether anyone's behavior increased in the future.
c) Josh's mom - because when she picked him up, the noise stopped.
d) Emily - as she's less likely to talk to Josh's parents in front of him in the future.
